My Real Biodata

Asuka Momoko (飛鳥ももこ), known as "Momo-chan" to friends, hails all the way from New York and has moved back to Japan after five years. With a bit of an adventurous streak, she enjoys having new experiences. Momoko can get passionate easily and her hobbies include making pastries, baseball, and studying. Not only is she the oldest and the tallest girl out of Doremi's group, but she is also one of the top students in her class. She is quite liberal and often sings about love and peace dressed in a hippie costume. Momoko also occasionally plays the guitar for the Music Club.

Because she grew up in America, Momoko lacks knowledge of Japanese and culture; consequently, she was unable to communicate with anyone well unless she was in her witch form or had her headset on at the MAHO Dou. This made her a very shy person, but fortunately, Doremi and the girls patiently spent time teaching her Japanese. Eventually, by the end of Mo~tto! Ojamajo Doremi, Momoko is able to speak Japanese fluently without assistance. Still, occasionally, she peppers her speech with English.

Ironically, Momoko's former inability to speak Japanese was one of the factors of a reverse culture shock. When Momoko was five years old, she had just moved to New York due to her father's job transferring and she could not speak English. One day, she met an old woman, who turned out to be Majomonroe, and befriended her. Upon Majomonroe's death, Momoko was given an earring, and from then on, that stud has always been on her left ear as a tribute. Because Majomonroe was technically Momoko's first best friend as well as a grandmother figure, Momoko holds a special place for her in her heart. It is often Majomonroe whom Momoko turns to for help and soughts for her advice; although Majomonroe is now deceased, Momoko sometimes dreams about her.

As a Witch

When Momoko was five years old, she encountered Majomonroe in the park and befriended her. As the two bonded, Majomonroe secretly taught Momoko magical spells while they baked at her patissierie. Momoko did not find out about Majomonroe's secret until years later, when she accidentally discovered a portal to the Witch World. Consequently, Majomonroe was turned into a witch frog; as a result, Momoko began her witch training with Majomonroe in order to change her back into her normal form.

Fortunately, Majomonroe's grandmotherly interactions with Momoko had not changed, and their friendship grew stronger. After Momoko passed her final witch exam and was bestowed her magical crystal, Majomonroe was diagnosed with an illness and shortly died. Tearfully, Momoko attempted to resurrect Majomonroe with magic, but her crystal shattered and the spell was unsuccessful. As punishment for committing forbidden magic, Momoko was forced to quit her apprenticeship. However, the Queen decided to give Momoko a second chance when she noticed that Momoko's baking skills could aid Doremi and the girls.
  • "Pretty Witch Momokocchi!"
Momoko says this after she transforms into her witch uniform.
  • "Perutan petton palalila pon!"
This is Momoko's spell, followed by a command.
  • "Perutan petton, clearly!"
This is Momoko's chant when performing Magical Stage with the others.
After passing the level 9 witch exam, Momoko received a fairy named Nini, who resembles and shares the same characteristics as her. As a fairy, Nini acts as an assistant and helps out Momoko whenever she is in a pinch. Nini can simulate Momoko's appearance.

Momoko's witch uniform also changes within every series, and sometimes even gets special additions to her clothing. They include:
  1. Witch uniform (Mo~tto! Ojamajo Doremi and Ojamajo Doremi Na-i-sho)
Momoko uses her Parara Tap to retrieve her witch uniform. The witch uniform is reversible and can become the Patissier uniform.
  2. Patissier uniform (Mo~tto! Ojamajo Doremi and Ojamajo Doremi Na-i-sho)
This uniform is the official work uniform at the Sweet House MAHO Dou, and Momoko wears it whenever she is working there. It is reversible and can become her witch uniform.
  3. Witch uniform (Ojamajo Doremi DOKKA~N!)
Momoko uses her Cologne Tap to retrieve her witch uniform.

International Info

The characters in Momoko's name consists of "flying" (asu), "bird" (ka), "peach" (momo), and "child" (ko). She was originally voiced by Miyahara Nami, a voice actress and a freestyle jazz vocalist. The reason why she can speak English very well was because she attended an international school in Australia for two years when her family had to relocate there while she was in 8th grade. Not only does she voice Yada Masaru and Nini as well, but she is well-known in other communities for voicing characters such as Goutokuji Miyako/Rolling Bubbles from Demashitaa! Powerpuff Girls Z and Wallace from Digimon Adventure 02.
